Whether or not you liked the BBC’s offering, but there have been some interesting takes on the Christmas story floating about on youtube this year. I’m a massive fan of facebook, so A Social Network Christmas really appealed to me, in terms our socially-networked culture can really get hold of.
But my favourite is this offering from Rael Mason, called 21st Century Christmas.
Amidst the tinsel and traditions of a 21st century Christmas, Rael considers the real point of Christmas and translates the story into 21st Century terms.
“If this was Royal London, home of ‘King’ David Beckham, Jesus could have been born in a homeless shelter in Peckham…”
Whether you feel frustration at the commercialism of Christmas, or disillusioned as you face a difficult Christmas, the question 21st Century Christmas asks is the right one: what is Christmas really all about, and does it really make a difference anyway?
